- International travel to the DACH region is expected to decline 52% in 2020, a smaller decline than in the wider European region (-61%), helped by strong intra-DACH visitor flows during the peak summer months as visitors opted for closer-to-home destinations.
- Domestic travel is a vital part of the tourism sector in the DACH region, accounting for half of total trips taken in 2019. Combined with the intra-regional travel, this has supported the sector to some extent in 2020.
- City travel will experience large falls, including significant drops in important international travel, as well as some loss of share in domestic travel.
