Throughout the pandemic, we have judged that the risks to our baseline forecast lie to the downside. Businesses have shared this view, according to every Global Risk Survey conducted this year.

  • Global risks remain weighted to the downside, based on our latest bottom-up, scenario-based quantification of economic prospects. 
  • Businesses are even more pessimistic. Using the latest risk survey results to derive an alternative projection for world GDP, we find that businesses’ own risk-weighted average could lie as much as 3% below our baseline.
  • Our analysis suggests that financial crisis fears account for much of the gloom.
