Graduate recruitment for 2021 at BIS Oxford Economics

BIS Oxford Economics, part of Oxford Economics Group, is a global independent economics company. As we continue to grow we are seeking to appoint high-calibre economists to our expanding team based in our Sydney office.

The role

This is an 18 month rotational program, providing exposure to both the subscription and consulting parts of the business.

  • Each rotation last six months and offers exposure to our core areas of macroeconomics, property and construction. A specialist mentor to guide your work within each area. During this rotation phase there will be a heavy emphasis on data analysis/processing and modelling, in addition to the development of essential soft skills.
  • Successful progress through this period is marked by advancement to producing content for our subscription service, which includes direct exposure to clients.
  • As you progress, you will increasingly be responsible for producing forecasts within a model framework. Understanding the range of in-house econometric models that we have developed is crucial as these underpin the majority of work we deliver to our clients through wither our subscription or consulting services. . You will also receive training to enable you to prepare briefing articles on topical economic issues; develop econometric forecasting tools; undertake scenario and policy analysis.
  • Assignment to a specific department will be based on expertise, ability and job fit.

Skills and experience

BIS Oxford Economics’ graduate scheme is for high-achieving graduates who want to apply their understanding of economics to real world issues. You must be able to put together logical economic arguments and explain them convincingly to economists and non-economists alike. You will need to be a fast learner with strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail. You should be comfortable meeting tight deadlines and working under your own initiative.

Successful candidates are highly numerate and have good technical skills. They work well with others, take responsibility for the quality and timeliness of their work, and demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving. Fluency in English is essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Required
  • A degree in economics or a closely related subject (honours highly desirable) 
  • Strong presentation and writing skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken
  • A demonstrable interest in economics with a desire to develop the skills and expertise required to build a career
  • Ability to work as part of a broader team
  • The right to work in the Australia

We also consider applications from recent graduates with experience in academic research, business, the civil service, financial services or consultancy.

Preferred:
  • A Postgraduate level degree (honours)
  • Some work experience, whether paid or voluntary
  • Experience in developing Economic models
Key Responsibilities

Our culture is modern, open and collaborative. You will be working closely with experienced economists and expected to take responsibility for your work from an early stage.

Depending on the team you join, you will contribute to BIS Oxford Economics’ global macro and sectoral forecasts and prepare briefing articles on topical economic issues; develop econometric forecasting tools; undertake scenario and policy analysis; or assist senior economists on a variety of consultancy projects.
