Senior Economist, Cities & Regions Team - New York, NY
Oxford Economics (OE) is seeking a high-calibre Senior Economists for our expanding cities and regions team to be based in our New York office.
The team is responsible for our unique suite of forecasting services that cover more than 7,000 cities and regions across the world, including all North American States, Provinces, Metros and Counties. Our services provide regularly updated data, forecasts, scenarios and written analysis for each location. Our cities and regions team work extensively with real estate investors, advisors, data vendors, pension funds, lenders, developers, and increasingly with retailers, corporations, financial institutions and government organizations.
Key elements of the role include the following:
State & Metro Forecasting Service – approx. 25 days per quarter
Contributing to all aspects of the production, delivery and development of our US and Canadian Regional Forecasting Service. Specifically
providing input to and feedback on the forecast economic performance of states and metros;
articulating the state and metro forecasts and drivers of the forecast in a quarterly report;
provide input into product development discussions.
In collaboration with the business development team, communicating our US and Canadian regional forecasts to clients and potential clients across North America—inclusive of large corporate firms in various industry sectors, government agencies and real-estate audiences; Specifically
Presenting the state and metro forecast to clients and prospects on calls—including be able to answer questions about why we have a certain state/metro view;
Help clients interpret the state and metro forecast in the context of their sector—a key sector being real estate.
Presenting our US and Canadian regional outlook at select internal and external webinars, conferences and roundtable events—often focused on specific economic/regional themes;
Engage with and support Oxford’s existing clients effectively and develop Oxford’s relationship with them.
Support the coordination, production and writing of sub-national reports and event driven commentary, including research briefings, quarterly outlook reports, chartbooks, individual metro reports and more thematic pieces;
Collaborate across other subscription and consultancy teams within Oxford Economics to ensure consistency, accuracy and alignment of economic analysis and conclusions.
US State and Metro Consultancy Service – approx. 30 days per quarter
Lead the development of custom research proposals and project reports;
Manage customized consultancy projects;
Working with the North American business development team, being entrepreneurial and proactive in the identification and pursuit of new business opportunities—both subscription-based and consultancy services.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, or related discipline
More than 5 years’ experience in progressively responsible roles as a professional economist, or related field - including in the field of sub-national analysis;
Demonstrated interest in real estate analysis , data analysis, economic development, regional planning, and/or economic and public policy.
Familiarity and experience working with datasets from the US Census, Bureau of Economic Analysis and/or Bureau of Labor Statistics
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, including the ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets;
A track record of successfully developing and executing customized projects;
Experience of using a variety of data sources and familiarity of sub-national government and proprietary economic datasets;
Ability to work effectively in teams across different offices and timezones and meet tight deadlines; and
Strong Excel skills are essential, and experience with Eviews is desirable
