Global Head of Business Development, Tourism Economics - London

Oxford Economics (OE) is looking to hire a Global Head of Business Development – Tourism Economics, to expand its global footprint through a mixture of direct and indirect sales, product development, new partnerships and enhancing the overall Tourism Economics subscription and consultancy offering. 

 Tourism Economics (TE) is a market leader in travel and tourism forecasting and consultancy and forms part of Oxford Economics ,who are one of the world’s leading global forecasting and quantitative analytics firms.  

This position will be an integral part of Oxford Economics’ growth plans and is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing company at the forefront of the industry. 


Business Development 

  • Maintain and grow subscription sales of TE forecasting services through direct and in-direct sales 
  • Take a leading role in the selling of TE services by liaising with existing global business development (BD) teams and the TE consultancy team. 
  • Develop a strong understanding of the subscription and consultancy products and become proficient at providing demonstrations of TE services, conducting as necessary face to face or web-based demos 
  • Research companies, gain intelligence and identify key individuals within these firms to target for sales opportunities.  
  • Identify and manage industry partnerships, associations and relationships 
  • Front the commercial side for Tourism Economics 
  • Create short, medium- and long-term sales strategies for each region 
  • Identify new markets, areas for product development and other opportunities for grow 

Internal Communication 

  • Work closely with the MD, Specialist Markets Group (SMG), Head of Tourism Economics & Dave Goodger, Director of Tourism Economics Europe on the above 
  • Liaise with other regional business development heads, providing regular communication on sales performance, feedback and plans for the future.    
  • Work closely with the SMG Commercial Associate on coordinating all of the above and providing weekly updates to the MD, SMG and Head of TE 
  • Work closely with the Head of Marketing to promote the services 
  • Work closely with regional Tourism Economics economists and researchers as required. 
  • A degree from a recognized university 
  • A proven, demonstrable sales track record, with at least 5 years of experience in B2B  
  • Experience selling in the travel and tourism sector 
  • Existing contacts in the travel, leisure, hotel or  investment sector  
  • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple projects at once  
  • Candidate must have strong presentation and writing skills  
  • Must be a self-starter, with the drive to set and reach ambitious goals  
  • Must be a team player 
  • Willing to travel and have a valid passport 
  • Fluent English, other languages are a plus 
  • Economics degree highly desirable 
  • Experience selling to international markets  
  • Experience selling data or information services B2B 
  • Research, economic or business sales experience 
  • Phone sales and WebEx experience along with face to face selling 
  • Familiar with Salesforce 
  • Experience managing others
