Research Associate - New York, NY

Oxford Economics (OE) is seeking a Research Associate for our Thought Leadership team based in our New York office.

The Research Associate plays a crucial role in the planning, administration, and execution of research programs. Core duties include program design and execution, writing and editing research materials, project management and editorial administration, and developing ideas for future programs.

This individual works closely with internal teams, external partners, and current and potential clients to ensure projects are executed up to the Thought Leadership team’s high standards. The Research Associate is expected to work collaboratively, think critically, and take personal initiative to solve problems and drive process improvements.

Project management / Editorial administration
  • Create projects in the Oxford Economics’ financial, project management, and CRM software as needed, and work with the billing team to create sales orders and invoice requests for all TL-US projects (including pricing details for proposals)
  • Request purchase orders for all project costs (e.g., survey fieldwork, transcriptions); communicate PO numbers to partners and process invoices  
  • Create and update project timelines, sharing updates with clients and partners as needed; keep track of internal deadlines to ensure team members stay on deadline (“managing up” as needed)
  • Send project materials (e.g., survey drafts, interview guides) to clients and partners, and collect and incorporate feedback      
  • Take notes during meetings and share with attendees
  • Create and check SOWs for projects, verifying against survey SOWs
  • Assist research managers as needed with tasks related to research design and execution
Research program design and execution
  • Assist research managers as needed with methodology design, research execution, survey fieldwork management, and data management and analysis.
  • Identify candidates for qualitative interviews
  • Conduct desk research and produce literature reviews related to current or future programs
  • Assist with survey development
  • Assist with qualitative interviews (including reviewing transcripts)
  • Request proposals from survey partners
  • Test online survey links
  • Communicate final demographic targets with clients and survey partners
  • Assess weekly status updates and send to client
  • Work with survey partner to ensure respondents are interpreting questions correctly—and correct any issues during fieldwork
  • Communicate data needs (e.g., banner tabs, formats) to survey partner
Data management and analysis
  • Thoroughly check data files at the pilot, interim, and final stage (e.g., using Pivot tables or Stata)
  • Clean data as needed for use in other programs (e.g., SPSS, Stata, Tableau)
  • Identify variances within data sets
  • Work with the project team to synthesize findings and highlight key storylines
  • Work with Research Analyst to build data visualizations (i.e., what type of chart would best illustrate a particular survey question or data point) and identify statistically meaningful findings
  • Assist in building charts, graphs, dashboards and data visualizations in Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Tableau
Writing and editing
  • Assist editors in drafting reports and other materials for publication
  • Manage fact-checking and copyediting process for deliverables (assign responsibilities, enforce deadlines, review work)
  • Assist editors in checking quotes, facts, and data in reports, ensuring the quality and integrity of the analysis and properly citing all sources in line with company policy and copyright laws
  • Support the editorial team in promotion efforts by writing copy for the website and social media as needed  
Business development and strategy
  • Create proposals for clients, managing tight deadlines
  • Develop and communicate best practices with other teams
  • Improve the design of proposals and research materials
